I am Piyush, a PhD student from JNCASR (Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research), in Bangalore, India. Our lab (Autophagy lab) in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit of the Centre is interested in understanding the process of autophagy better. My project involves, using chemical modulation as tool to have better insights into the process. For the same, I am interested in "identification and characterization of novel small molecule modulators of autophagy" and to further test these compounds in several disease models of autophagy and look into their mechanistic insights.

I am here in Gunawardena lab for a period of two months on a grant funded by The Royal Society, London. I am working with Adrian from Gunawardena lab to investigate the role of autophagy during lace plant leaf development. I have really enjoyed my time here in Halifax and would like to thank Arunika, Adrian and other lab members for being such wonderful hosts.
