Jaime's Research

Jaime Wertman is in her fifth year at the University of King’s College, through she takes all of her classes at Dalhousie in an Honours Biology Program. She began in the Foundation Year Program at King’s and loved it, but has since realized where her true academic interests lay. She started volunteering in the lab after meeting Dr. Arunika Gunawardena in the plant portion of the Developmental Biology class. Jaime completed her honours project with Dr. Gunawardena as of May 2011. The project involved studying the role of mitochondria in lace plant programmed cell death. Jaime's presentations have been particularly well-received and she has received several awards. This project was successful and resulted in publication of a manuscript, with Jaime as a co-author. Though Jaime will hopefully be starting a Master's project in the Pharmacology Department at Dalhousie in January, she is still working in the PCD lab preparing another manuscript.
